THE COLONNA HOSTELRLY restaurant
The Colonna cellars are housed in a splendid 16th century building which served as a staging-post in the olden days, where travellers between Rome, the main center in the Frusinate area and Naples could rest and take refreshment, and where the stagecoach operators could change horses.
Because of its size, it now serves a number of uses.
On the lower floor are the wine storage and regrigeration tanks, where the wine is kept prior to bottling.
The olive mill is also here, as well as a reaurant and the shop where the porducts are displayed.
The upper floor houses the bottling plant, an analysis laboratory, storage for finished product and the Estate offices.
In this book Travel Round Italy Gregorovius recommends the hosterly as a good place to stop, also mentioning the raid by brigands, common in the area. It is said that Garibaldi also stopped here during his advance on Rome.
