Gallicano Farm.
On April 26, 1669, Prince Giovan Battista Rospigliosi
bought the Gallicano Castle from the Ludovisi and also
that of Colonna, along with the Zagarolo State.
The year after, having married Maria Camilla - Cardinal
Lazzaro Pallavicinis granddaughter- he also inherited the titles,
the emblem and the name.
On March 29, 1729, Nicol Pallavicini bought from Gian
Lorenzo Bernini, for 1500 scudi, a vineyard with buildings,
in the Gallicano zone, more precisely the San Pastore area
the so-called Villetta which today is a secular park.
Among the pine, cedar and chestnut trees, is an oval sheet
of water surrounded by a small wall: this is the fountain that
Bernini designed to reflect the Casino dellAurora in the
Pallavicini Palace gardens in Rome, which at the beginning of
the 20th century, was moved in front of what was upon a time
Berninis house. A cyprus-lined walkway leads to an 18th
century church that is dedicated to St. Francis. All around
are
wide open spaces, surrounded by gazebos, as if in a green
living room and in the evenings it becomes a relaxing
and refreshing oasis.
Pallavicini offers tours in the Gallicano
Farm upon request, along with tastings and local cuisine.
